I have been an avid fan of the A Song of Ice & Fire series by George R R Martin since I was in my teens when I picked up the first novel A Game of Thrones while I was on holiday in Georgia, USA. We were due to travel from Atlanta, Georgia to Houston, Texas by car by halfway in Mississippi we hit a patch of oil on a merger road from the highway during light rain and went straight down the embankment and hit a tree.
The long and short of it it that we all ended up in hospital for a week, everyone was OK in the long run just pretty badly bashed up. This meant of course that i had lots of time to kill and only A Game of Thrones to help me through it. I read the book in record time and managed to charm one of the lovely nurses to go pickup A Clash of Kings for me which took me through to the end of my hospital stay.
Suffice to say that George R R Martin and A Song of Ice & Fire made my week in hospital more bearable and both Martin and his novels became a passion of mine from that day forward. Of course as soon as I got back home I went straight to the book shop and bought book three A Storm of Swords.
Thus, my watch begun 🙂
